Seminole County
Seminole County was founded in 1913. It covers about 309.4 square miles of land, ranking it as the 64th largest county in Florida by total area. Sanford serves as the county seat, and the county is home to an estimated 470,856 residents.
The Seminole County court system consists of four Circuit Courts and four County Courts. The Seminole County Circuit Courts are trial courts of general jurisdiction. They handle all legal matters, including felonies and general civil claims of more than $15,000, exclusive interest, and costs. They also handle family law cases, probate matters, mental health cases, and juvenile matters. The Seminole County Courts have limited authority over certain types of civil and criminal cases, such as equity and civil cases in which the amount in dispute is less than $15,000 (exclusive of costs and interest) and violations of municipal and county ordinances. The Circuit Courts and County Courts share jurisdiction over disputes in most landlord-tenant cases.
Seminole County court records are official documents and are accessible to the public. They include exhibits, transcripts, and stenographic tapes of court proceedings. In some instances, certain court records or information may be sealed and inaccessible to the public unless an individual is authorized by law or court order. Confidential court records include adoption records, child abuse cases, and termination of parental rights. The following court records may be publicly accessed in Seminole County:
