Tulare County
Tulare County is located in California. Before the county was established in 172, the area was occupied by Yokut natives. However, the Spanish settlers renamed the county Tulare from the great lake that surrounds the area. The county has a population of about 473,117 residents and occupies over 4,839 square miles.
Tulare County is located within the Fifth District Court of Appeal, served by the Superior Court and County Courts, and under the jurisdiction of the United States Court for the Eastern District of California. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit handles all the appeals from the Eastern District. The Superior Court of Tulare County is responsible for handling civil cases, including money claims, damages, or other claims concerning property and contracts. Additionally, they also deliberate on criminal cases. The County Courts handle minor criminal cases, domestic violence, juvenile cases, family matters, divorces, misdemeanors, infractions, and criminal cases. Tulare County courts handle about 7,000 cases annually.
