San Bernardino County
San Bernardino County was formed in 1853, and it spans 20,105 square miles in the Southern region of California. It has 24 incorporated cities and is inhabited by over 2.2 million people. San Bernardino County is America's largest county.
The San Bernardino County Superior Court serves over 2.2 residents and businesses within the county and is divided into districts depending on the type of matter. The court operates through several divisions/courts with varying jurisdictions. Prominent among them are the Criminal, Civil, Family Law, Juvenile, Mental Health, and Probate Divisions.
The Criminal Division of San Bernardino County's Superior Court handles misdemeanor and felony criminal charges. On the other hand, the Civil Division has jurisdiction over cases in which one party sues another to retrieve personal or real property, money, for tort, to protest certain civil rights, or to enforce a commitment or contract. The county's Juvenile Court presides over delinquency cases (for minors under 18) and dependency cases. The Probate Division handles decedents' estates, trusts, conservatorships, and trusts.
The Family Law Division of the San Bernardino County Superior Court oversees various law actions, including divorce, spousal and child support, nullity, and legal separation. The county's Mental Health Court is a problem-solving court. It helps to reduce criminal activities within the county and improve the quality of life of defendants by combining judicial supervision with certain support services, including community mental health treatment.
