Benton County
Located in Northwestern Arkansas, Benton County was established on September 30, 1836, and covers 847.72 square miles. In accordance with the 2020 decennial census, more than 284,000 people reside in Benton County, which is named after Senator Thomas Hart Benton of Missouri.
The Benton County court system uses District and Circuit Courts to satisfy the demands of justice in the county. Benton County District Courts hear cases relating to misdemeanors, preliminary hearings for criminal cases, traffic cases, and violations of local ordinances. Exclusive jurisdiction over civil claims of up to $100 also belongs to District Courts. Circuit Courts in the county have general jurisdictions over civil claims above $100 and all types of criminal cases, such as felonies. They also handle matters relating to domestic relations, probate, juvenile, mental health cases.
The Benton County Clerk's Office maintains public court records in the county. Public court records are documentation of proceedings of cases handled in Benton Courts that have not been sealed from public disclosure. To obtain public court records in person, visit the office of the County Clerk at 215 East Central Avenue, Bentonville. The office is open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
